Vatikiotika onions, a local PDO variety of Southern Greece is the main ingredient of Onion Chutney, together with red sweet wine and vinegar. Onions contribute savory flavor to dishes without contributing significant caloric content.Onions also contain small amounts of calcium, iron, folate, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium, and the antioxidants quercetin and sulfur. They have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, and have been linked to reduced risk of cancer, lower blood sugar levels and improved bone health.
